Civic and voter education

The NEBE is responsible for providing voter education to all voters in Ethiopia.
The NEBE runs a range of voter education programmes including:

* Training for voters in polling day procedures, run by polling station officials
* Media announcements on election issues, including radio programmes
* Posters
* Public Meetings

The NEBE is also working closely with 24 civil society organisations (CSOs) on a nationwide programme of civic and voter education. The 24 organisations are:

     Addis Ababa Chamber of Commerce
     Enweyay Civic and Social Education Centre
     Ethiopian International Institute for Peace and Development
     Afroflag Youth Vision
     Action Professionals Association for the People
     Centre for Advancement of Peace and Democracy in Ethiopia
     African Initiatives for a Democratic World Order
     Confederation of Ethiopia Trade Unions
     Centre for Local Capacity Building and Studies
     Ethiopia Human Rights Council
     Tri-Dimension View
     Research Centre for Civic and Human Rights Education
     Peace and Development Committee
     Vision Ethiopia Congress for Democracy
     Organisation for Social Advancement Vision
     Knowledge Ethiopia
     Management Development Forum
     Initiative Africa
     Welfare for the Street Mothers and Children Organisation
     Addis Ababa Youth Association
     Ethiopia Human Rights and Civic Education Promotion Association
     Evangelical Church Fellowship of Ethiopia
     Society for Advancement of Human Rights Education
     Tigray Youth Association

The CSO civic and education programme receives funding from the Joint Donor Election Support Programme for the 2005 elections, supported by Austria, Canada, Finland, Ireland, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, the United Nations Development Programme, the United Kingdom and the United States of America.

The Programme is managed by Electoral Reform International Services under the auspices of UNDP.
