NEBE Members

The Board is composed of seven members appointed by the House of Peoples’ Representatives upon the recommendation of the Prime Minister and is accountable to the House of People’s Representatives. Board members are appointed on the basis of their allegiance to the Constitution, their lack of party political affiliations and their professional competencies.

The Chairman of the board is appointed by the House of Peoples’ Representatives and is responsible for the overall supervision of the activities of the Secretariat of the Board.

The Vice-Chairman of the Board is elected from among it members and discharges the duties of the Chairman in his absence.

The Board has a Secretariat headed by a Chief Executive and a Deputy Chief Executive, both selected on the basis of their experience and ability. They are also appointed by the House of Peoples’ Representatives upon the recommendation of the Prime Minister. The Chief Executive of the Secretariat of the Board is a non-voting member and Secretary of the Board.

Board members are independent, non-partisan and professional in the exercise of their duties.

Board decisions are made by majority vote; in the case of a tie, the Chairman has a casting vote. The Board meets on a weekly basis and is in quorum with four members.
