Support to Political Parties, Coalitions and
Independent Candidates
Donors
are providing the National Election Board of Ethiopia
(NEBE) with the facility to offer support to political
parties, coalitions and independent candidates contesting
the 15 May 2005 elections to the House of Federal
Representatives.
Political
Parties/Coalitions
The
NEBE has established, with the agreement of donors,
a formula for each political party/coalition to receive
a cash-value allocation for goods and services related
to election campaigning. Goods and services are purchased
by the NEBE on behalf of the political parties/coalitions.
The formula was announced to political parties/coalitions
on 18 March 2005.
The
cash-value allocation formula is:
An
amount per candidate: A political party/coalition
is allocated 3,460 Birr per candidate. A political
party/coalition can receive a maximum of 259,500 Birr
(i.e. 75 candidates).
Weighted
Support for Political Parties/ Coalitions contesting
more than one region: Each political party/coalition
contesting two or more regions (with more than one
candidate in each region) receives a cash-value allocation
of 43,250 Birr per region contested.
Weighted
Support for fielding Women Candidates: Each
political party/coalition fielding a woman candidate
will receive a cash value allocation of 2,160 Birr
per woman candidate.
Any
political party/coalition that has not so far taken
up its allocation should telephone 09 429932 between
the hours of 9am and 1pm, Monday to Friday.
Independent
Candidates
Each
independent candidate will receive a cash value allocation
of 3,460 Birr for printing services to be provided
by one of three printers appointed by the NEBE.
Independent
candidates wishing to take up their cash value allocation
should visit Office # 9 in Building C at the NEBE
Headquarters in Addis Ababa between the hours of 9am
and 1pm, Monday to Friday.
Any
political party/coalition or independent candidate
that does not take up its cash value allocation by
1pm on Friday April 29th 2005 will lose its allocation.
