for on-campus Election
March
29, 2005
The National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) today launched
a two-day training for leaders of students’ councils
and unions from nine higher learning institutions on the
implementation of elections to be held on campus
The
training will help them facilitate voter registration and
voting processes in their respective colleges and universities
around the country.
“As
part of the efforts to ensure democratic election, the NEBE,
for the first time in its history, is finalizing preparations
to enable the students to elect their representatives,”
Tesfaye Mengesha, Deputy Head of the NEBE Secretariat, said
at the opining of the training.
Students
will be registered on ten electoral rolls in each university
or college corresponding to the ten regional states and
administrations, and will vote for candidates in the constituencies
where they come from.
The
training covers issues including the recruitment and duties
of election officers at all levels, as well as the registration
of voters and the procedures for on-campus voting.
